Porsche Auto Parts Prestige Says It All
Rooted in motorsport, Porsche and Porsche auto parts have built a prestigious reputation. This reputation is built on high quality, environmental protection, and safety. Since the inception of Porsche Automobile Holding SE (Porsche SE), Porsche auto parts have pushed engineering to the limits.
Porsche Auto Parts - Refined Engineering Redefines Racing
The first Porsche, a two-seat 356, debuted on June 8, 1948. Premier Porsche auto parts included a rear-mounted 1.1 liter engine with 40-horsepower engineered by Porsche SE's founding father, Professor Ferdinand Porsche. The 356 won its first race just one month after a few hand-built models left factory headquarters in Gmund, Austria.
With such a fine specimen rolling off the assembly line, Porsche auto parts changed little over the next several years. In 1954, a speedster version of the 356 was introduced. Despite steadily rising sales demand, Porsche continued to be hand crafted with great care and patience. This included the Porsche 356B, which entered the market in 1960. Porsche auto parts featured high-set bumpers and enlarged windows with a choice of three different engines, including a 90-horsepower Super 90.
It was in 1963 that the crown jewel of Porsche, the 911, made its debut with a two-liter, six-cylinder engine that put out an astounding-for-its-time 130 horsepower. The Porsche 911 became one of the best-selling sports cars in the world. Together with its predecessor, the 356, it is the foundation of Porsche auto parts success.
Production of the 356 ceased in 1965, but its engine lived on in the 912. With it, Porsche auto parts improved front-rear weight distribution. Combining fuel-efficiency with low weight (250 pounds less than the 911) and low drag, the 912 was "green" ahead of its time.
Porsche auto parts introduced a mid-engine 914 in 1970 to replace the 912; and, in 1976, the front-engine 924 with its Audi powerplant replacing the 914. As Porsche auto parts continued to improve in popularity and perfection, Porsche race cars won on tracks around the world - from Le Mans to Targa Florio to Daytona!
In 1978, Porsche auto parts introduced a 240-horsepower V8 engine in the all-new 928. This model combined power, poise and sports car handling with the refined comfort of a luxury sedan. 1985 introduced the Porsche 959 with a twin-turbocharged six-cylinder boxer engine featuring an air-cooled block and water-cooled heads that allowed for smooth, seamless delivery of power across the engine RPM band.
In the 1990s, Dr. Wendelin Wiedekin, former head of Porsche SE production, stepped in as CEO. Porsche auto parts re-focused development on the highly regarded 911, introducing the mid-engined Boxster. From 1996 to 2004, each new model housed a flat six engine more powerful than the one before it; from 2.5 liter to 2.7 to 3.2.
The renowned high-quality and prestige of Porsche and Porsche auto parts continues in five basic Porsche models: the Porsche 911, the Boxter, the Cayman, the Cayenne sports SUV, and the all-new Panamera sports coupe.
